Roofer torching a roll of bitumen onto a flat roof

Bitumen roofing

Bitumen is still the most widely used material on flat roofs in the Netherlands. Laid properly in two layers it lasts 25 to 30 years. The difference is in the details: the edges, the penetrations and the drainage.

How we work

We remove the old covering if it’s in poor shape, or lay a new layer over it if the base is still sound. Then an underlayer and a top layer, fully torched. All around we fit an aluminium roof trim or a zinc edge finish.

Torching safely

Torching on a roof is work for skilled hands. We always have extinguishers on the roof and check an hour afterwards that nothing is still smouldering.

What customers ask about bitumen roofing

01How long does a bitumen roof last?

With good maintenance, 25 to 30 years. Have it checked every two years and clear the leaves from the outlet, and you’ll reach that age.

  1. The flat roof on our extension had leaked for years. Not any more, and neatly finished against the wall.
